Emergency Planning and Back-up Power

HMP Senior Solutions strongly supports the recent regulation changes pertaining to emergency power support for Florida assisted living communities. Prior to Hurricane Irma in September 2017, assisted living communities were not required to have an onsite generator. Following the aftermath of the storm, the requirements for assisted living communities were amended to the following:

The acquisition of a sufficient alternate power source such as a generator(s), maintained at the assisted living facility, to ensure that current licensees of assisted living facilities will be equipped to ensure ambient air temperatures will be maintained at or below 81 degrees Fahrenheit for a minimum of ninety-six (96) hours in the event of the loss of primary electrical power.

Our community was fortunately built with a generator and has been upgraded to meet the new 96-hour standard for maintaining at or below 81 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, our community disaster and evacuation plan has also been updated per the new requirements. Our plan and upgraded generator successfully meet the new requirements and have been approved by both the county and state.
